Thomas Nelson Publishers has announced the formation of Grupo Nelson, a Spanish-language division, to replace its current single imprint, Caribe-Betania Editores, for all future Spanish titles.

Five book imprints in all have been created under the Grupo Nelson umbrella. Editorial Diez Puntos (“10 Points Editorial”) will specialize in books on parenting and family, personal finance, health and fitness, self-help and popular culture. Líder Latino (“Latin Leader”) will cover books on business and leadership. Editorial Caribe will focus on Bibles, biblical reference and electronic religious products, while Editorial Católica will specialize in Catholic books and Bibles. Editorial Betania will comprise inspirational, popular religious and children's books.

The Caribe-Betania Editores imprint will be dissolved, with current staff taking on roles with the new imprints—Thomas Nelson also expects Grupo Nelson to double in staff size in the next year. Additionally, the new imprints will aim to publish 80 titles per year, an increase from Caribe-Betania's current 60 titles per year.

“We've seen rapid growth in the Spanish book market, and we anticipate that by increasing the breadth of our Spanish titles, we will be able to venture into new Spanish-speaking markets around the world, as well as sell more books to our current customers,” said Thomas Nelson's Chief Publishing Officer Tami Heim. “We also plan to release many high-profile books simultaneously in both English and Spanish, which should boost sales significantly.”

Larry Downs, retained in his role with Caribe-Betania Editores, will serve as vice president and publisher of Grupo Nelson.
