Family Christian Stores has started a “round up” program at its 310 stores to raise funds to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The program allows customers to round up their purchase to the next dollar amount. All money collected through this program will be given to the international charity Feed the Children to help provide meals and other necessities to victims. By combining customer donations and a contribution from the James Fund, the company's nonprofit organization serving widows and orphans, Family Christian said more than $100,000 will be donated to Feed the Children.

The company also is collecting new and gently used Bibles for victims. Customers can buy a new Bible for $1, and Family will match the Bible donation. In addition, stores are acting as drop-off points for supplies. Canned food, cleaning supplies and personal hygiene products will be distributed to those in need.
