Brilliance Audio, one of the country's largest audiobook publishers, announced last week that it has been sold to the senior members of the company's management team, R. Michael Snodgrass and Eileen Hutton. Terms of the sale were not provided. Brilliance had been owned by a group of West Michigan investors until last week. According to the company, it was the first publisher to sell unabridged audiobooks into the book trade, launching a new industry. Brilliance Audio products are distributed to the CBA market, to traditional and online retailers, and through public libraries.
Brilliance Audio was founded in 1984 by Snodgrass; Hutton joined the company in 1989 and is responsible for the acquisition and management of the company's intellectual property. There are no plans to change the structure or focus of the company, and most members of the management team have been with the company for many years, according to a statement from the company.
