The Second Annual National Quartet Convention (NQC) Music Awards celebrated the best of Southern gospel music Sept. 13 in Louisville, Ky. The evening ceremony was part of NQC’s “Free Friday” concerts, in which fans can watch streaming coverage of the events online for free.
The show featured performances from each Song of the Year nominee, including acts such as Gaither Vocal Band, The Perrys and the Booth Brothers, whose song “I Played in the Band and Sang in the Choir” won the prize.
The majority of the 18 awards were determined by fan voting, while the remaining five were selected by industry members.
In addition to Song of the Year, the Booth Brothers also won Male Group of the Year for the second year running. Group member Ronnie Booth took home the award for Lead Singer of the Year, which he also won last year.
The Collingsworth Family also accounted for several key awards. The group won Mixed Group of the Year, while Kim Collingsworth won the award for Musician of the Year.
Other key awards included Soloist of the Year—won by Guy Penrod—and Album of the Year, which was presented to The Perrys.
