India now has its own Christian Trade Association, while plans are in the works for a CBA Christian products expo in neighboring Indonesia.

Christian booksellers and publishers from across India met March 29 at Suvartha Bhavan in Thiruvalla, Kerala. The meeting was convened as a follow-up to Christian Trade Association International’s September 2010 meeting in Bangalore with the Bible Society of India.

One of the event organizers who was elected chairman of the new organization, Babu Verghese said: “Christian Trade Association India will be a boost to us to labor for the kingdom of God together with greater unity and power.”

The new Christian Trade Association India plans to hold a convention Dec. 3-9 in association with the Christian Expo already planned for in Thiruvalla.

Elsewhere in Asia, CBA Indonesia is planning the 2012 Indonesian Christian Retail Expo (ICRE), to be held May 10-14 at the Mall of Indonesia, Kelapa Gading Square in Jakarta. Last year’s Expo had record-breaking attendance of 24,000 people.

Christian publishers, booksellers, media and music companies will exhibit with more than 120 booths this year. A large section of the floor will house the Heavenly Manna Bible Museum, presented by the Bible Society in Indonesia, including the world’s largest Bible as a special attraction.

“We are optimistic about this event,” said Billy Lantang, chairman of CBA Indonesia and publishing manager of Immanuel Publishing House and Bookstore in Jakarta. “ICRE will have a more varied program of entertainment.”
