altSales of religious books decreased 9% in January, while all book categories rose 3.6% for the month, according to the Association of American Publishers.

The month's sales for religious books were $46.5 million. Sales of religious books previously decreased 9%, 25.6%, 11.8% and 10.8% last November, October, September and August, respectively.

The Adult Hardcover category was down by 33.9% in January with sales of $60.5 million, while Adult Paperback sales decreased 24.7% for the month, posting $102 million in sales.

The Children's/Young Adult Hardcover category saw an increase of 60% for the month, with sales of $54.4 million. The Paperback category for the same age was also up by 9.3% with sales totaling $37.4 million.
Audiobook sales decreased 45.9% in January, with sales totaling $ 7.7 million. However, E-book sales continued to rise in December, seeing a 173.6% increase for the month to $8.8 million.
