NY NOW, the Market for Home & Lifestyle (formerly known as New York International Gift Fair), has added an extra day to its winter 2014 event. NY NOW also will expand its use of multiple locations, including the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and both Passenger Ship Terminal Piers 92 and 94. With the addition of one weekday to the winter schedule, the six-day market will open Saturday, Feb. 1, and will run through Thursday, Feb. 6. Additionally, hotel reservations will open early, due to the winter market’s overlap with the 2014 Super Bowl. In anticipation of the winter 2014 NY NOW overlap with Super Bowl XLVIII, which will be held Sunday, Feb. 2, in East Rutherford, N.J., GLM researched New York City’s capacity, and confirmed that it can easily handle the additional traffic in terms of flights, restaurants and general crowds. Attendee surveys recently conducted by GLM indicate that while the overlap with the Super Bowl would not preclude retailers from attending the winter market, an additional weekday would minimize concerns about Super Bowl weekend attendance. “This marketplace is a pivotal event for thousands of retailers and suppliers, so the extension to a six-day market is a win-win for all,” said Christian Falkenberg, NY NOW director and GLM senior vice president. “Two weekend shopping days are still available for retailers who can only come on Saturday and Sunday this coming winter, plus an extra weekday is guaranteed for those who want to come after Super Bowl weekend.” Falkenberg added there are “more than enough” hotel rooms at reserved rates, and said: “We are opening reservations much earlier than usual so that NY NOW exhibitors and attendees can book early to ensure availability and the best pricing.” Travel Planners, the official hotel agency for NY NOW, will accept reservations for winter 2014 prior to the opening of the summer 2013 market. Participants can pre-register online at http://tphousing.com/ec.html to receive email notification when winter 2014 reservations can be made. Some 35,000 attendees are expected to attend NY NOW.
