David C Cook has launched its digital-first book line with a "thought-provoking" title. Dubbed an "unorthodox book," The Most Important Thing Happening by Mark Steele, a writer for VeggieTales and president of Steelehouse Productions, uses absurdities from 11 fantastical short stories to reflect the truth of God's work in people's lives.

"The digital marketplace has opened up new opportunities and audiences for authors of Christian content," said Don Pape, vice president of trade publishing at David C Cook. "With this, our initial digital-first offering, we are excited to reach readers who may not have previously picked up a Christian novel. Mark's voice is unique in Christian fiction, and I believe digital consumers will find this read both entertaining and thought-provoking."

Cook's Director of Digital Content Michael Covington added: "By offering books initially in digital formats, we can be more creative in terms of how that content is packaged and distributed. Additionally, it's our aim to make many of our digital-first titles available in print via print-on-demand technology, so bookstores and readers wanting a bound copy should be able to place orders via Ingram or their favorite retailers, respectively."
