As Christian retailers are asked to help choose the best new products of the last year, they have reason to be encouraged despite the challenges they face in a changing market.

Nominations for Christian Retailing's annual Retailers Choice Awards are up for 2010 over 2009--seen as an indication of ongoing support for the Christian retail channel from suppliers.

More than 40 companies have entered around 275 products for this year's awards, whose 30-plus categories range from Bible and children's books to several fiction categories and gifts.

"The fact that nominations are up despite the economy is very encouraging," said Christian Retailing Editor Andy Butcher. "I believe it points to the important part Christian retail plays for suppliers--and also affirms Christian Retailing's role in serving both groups."

Now in their tenth year, the Retailers Choice Awards have become increasingly acknowledged as an important way of recognizing some of the most significant new life-changing products in the Christian retail industry.

Voting on this year's awards--for new products released during 2009--opens Feb. 24, with the winners to be announced at The Gathering 2010 at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Ky., April 21-23.

Christian store personnel--owners, managers, frontline staff and volunteers--are asked to judge nominations on the impact they have had on staff and customers, including their ability to speak to people's hearts and evoke emotion, open people's minds to new ways of thinking and encourage and affirm Christ-like living.
