Gospel singer Calvin Hunt died Dec. 26 from lung cancer in a Queens, N.Y., hospital. A member and soloist of the Christ Tabernacle Choir and the Brooklyn Tabernacle Singers, Hunt was 52.

Hunt's 2008 release, Bridges (Vine Records), received two Dove Award nominations last year. Christ Tabernacle Choir Director Steven Carey said Hunt's "ministry transcended his terrific musical talent."

"He loved Jesus Christ, he loved people and ... he loved to share the love of Christ with anyone he came in contact," Carey said. "The faith he had in the God that had delivered him from drug addiction could be powerfully felt when he would tell his story. His testimony gave people hope ... everyone from the inner city to the suburbs was touched when he would speak and sing. He will be missed greatly by his local Christ Tabernacle family, the music industry and the body of Christ."

Hunt is survived by his wife, Miriam, and their two children as well as several grandchildren. A memorial service was held Dec. 29 at Christ Tabernacle.
