Response has been "very positive" to a major new industry initiative launched by Christian Retailing magazine.

Hosted by the publication, the Virtual Christian Retailing Show features 25 exhibitors, presenting products and extending some special offers to buyers. Since it was launched July 20, the Web-based event has attracted more than 3,300 visits--including 2,000 visitors--from 59 countries.

"While I knew this was an idea that stores would love, the response has far exceeded my expectations," said Christian Retailing Publisher Dave Condiff, noting that feedback from exhibitors and visitors has been "very positive." "The number of countries that have visited is astounding. ... We are already working on new features that will make our next virtual event even more effective for vendors and retailers to connect."

The Virtual Album Release Session was launched this week as part of the virtual show, featuring new songs from top artists. Phil Stacey, an American Idol finalist, discusses Into the Light, to be released Aug. 25 by Reunion Records (Provident-Integrity Distribution). Phillips, Craig & Dean talk about Fearless, recently released by INO Records (Provident-Integrity).

Additionally, the Virtual Christmas Showcase--featuring suppliers' holiday specials and promotions--is scheduled to run Sept. 30-Nov. 16.

Running through Aug. 31, the virtual tour also features Webinar training for stores. Held earlier this month, the first presentation by Carpentree on "Successful Art and Gift Sales" was in high demand and was sold out. Kerusso's Webinar on "Keys to Apparel Sales Success" was held earlier this week.

Kerusso Vice President of Marketing Chris Rainey said the company has received "great feedback" from the Webinar and virtual tour. "We love being a part of something that is new and fresh for our industry," he added. "The ability to interact with retailers through this channel is exciting and we're looking forward to even more involvement with it."

Carpentree Marketing Manager Sherry Morris called the virtual tour a "great out-of-the-box idea," which has increased Web traffic, phone calls and interest in the company's specials.
