Group, couples’ programs translated to meet need for Latino materials

altChurch resource group Outreach Inc. is seeking to fan the flames of marriage renewal in Spanish-speaking congregations and communities with translations of materials for the hit movie Fireproof.

The Vista, Calif.-based church communication and outreach tools provider released last month Spanish-language study and devotional programs created to build on the challenge presented in the film about a firefighter’s troubled marriage.

Casa Creación, under Strang Grupo Hispano, released the book March 10, a week after Strang Book Group’s Christian Life imprint launched the English version.

Doctor’s historical fiction work is set in dark period of Uruguay’s history

altA historical novel written by a relatively unknown author in Uruguay has been published by Grupo Nelson, Thomas Nelson’s Spanish division, after winning the company’s first Christian fiction writing contest.

Columnas de humo: Un peregrinaje a la esperanza by Álvaro Pandiani Figallo (columns of smoke: a pilgrimage to hope, 978-1-602-55291-3, $18.99), which released March 10, is set in 1857 when a yellow fever epidemic swept through Montevideo, Uruguay—the author’s home city.

Following the trend of increasing Bible sales in the Hispanic world, Editorial Portavoz, Kregel’s Spanish publishing arm, is releasing two children’s editions.
La Biblia gráfica (The Lion Graphic Bible, 978-0-825-41207-3, $12.99), written by Mike Maddox and illustrated by Jeff Anderson, released Jan. 31. Originally published by Lion UK in 2004, the brightly illustrated Bible is available in English from Kregel Publications.

Mi primera Biblia para bebés (978-0-825-41926-3, $9.99), authored by Sally Ann Wright and illustrated by Honor Ayres, will arrive in April. It is a translation of Baby’s First Bible, launched in English by AD Publishing in 2007.

Program’s miniature characters experience a backyard adventure

spanish bookBuilding on seven years of producing bilingual five-day Vacation Bible School (VBS) programs, Editorial Concordia releases its 2009 curriculum this month, Un viaje en miniatura: Descubriendo la grandeza de Dios (A Tiny Adventure: Discovering the Greatness of God).

The program is available in Spanish and bilingual versions for four age groups: level 1 (3-5), level 2 (6-8), level 3 (9-11) and level 4 (12-14). Student packs of five lessons for each level retail for $14.99 (Spanish) or $16.99 (bilingual). The teacher’s guide (including adult Bible studies), covering all age groups, is priced at $53.99 in Spanish (978-0-758-61703-3) and $59.99 in the bilingual edition (-8-8).
