Dave-Thornton-mugDavid C Cook (DCC) announced Friday that industry veteran Dave Thornton has been hired as vice president of strategic partnerships.

In his new role, Thornton will continue cultivating relationships he has built through the years to serve denominations, churches, associations and ministries. He will be responsible for building the go-to market strategy for the direct-to-church channel and will work closely with David C Cook publishers and directors for the Learning Resources strategic ministry unit (SMU) as they create curriculum and trade books for the church.

battle-plan-for-prayerFamily Christian Stores has named two New York Times best-selling books—The Battle Plan for Prayer: From Basic Training to Targeted Strategies by Alex and Stephen Kendrick and Fervent: A Woman’s Battle Plan to Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer by Priscilla Shirer (both B&H Publishing Group)—as the chain's 2016 Books of the Year. Family Christian will be promoting the War Room companion titles in all of its stores chain-wide, in multiple print catalogs, in online platforms and in its network of bloggers for the calendar year.

This is the first year that Family Christian has named two titles as the recipients of its Book of the Year award. Jennifer Lyell, publisher for B&H, commented on the achievement.

Tyndale House names new president, board chairman Print Email

TyndalePresTransitionThe board of directors of Tyndale House Publishers today elected longtime president Mark Taylor to serve as chairman of the board and CEO. The board also promoted Jeff Johnson to the role of president and chief operating officer. The transition in leadership follows the retirement of Charles W. Stair, who chaired his last meeting of the board of directors for Tyndale House in mid-December following a tenure of nearly 40 years.

Taylor has been working at Tyndale House since the company was founded in 1962. After graduating from Duke University in 1973, he became executive director of Tyndale House Foundation. In the next 11 years, he moved through various administrative positions in the company, and in 1984, he succeeded his father, Dr. Kenneth Taylor, as president and CEO. By becoming chairman as well as CEO, Taylor takes on the task of balancing the perspective of the board and that of the executive staff.

Study: Small business owners focus on unstable economy Print Email

HeavenlyGiftsSmall business owners reported an unstable global economy as their biggest concern for 2016, according to Manta's semi-annual Small Business Wellness Index. The study asked small business owners to evaluate their businesses and share what issues they expect to cause concern this year.

The top concerns hindering small business owners at the end of 2015 were longstanding business issues such as lack of capital (29 percent), competition (17 percent), lack of good employees (16 percent) and taxes (13 percent). For small business owners, public debate around minimum wage increases and healthcare reform has seemingly been overblown. In fact, small business owners listed cost of healthcare (6 percent), lack of government support (6 percent) and the rise in the minimum wage (2 percent) at the bottom of their list of concerns in 2015.

David C Cook, Integrity partner with Voice of the Martyrs Print Email

i-am-n-albumThe Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) is partnering with Integrity Music and David C Cook to build awareness of the plight of persecuted Christians. The organizations have teamed up to release a new i am n album Feb. 12 and i am n book and curriculum March 1.

The “i am n” movement takes its name from the symbol used by Islamic State (ISIS) militants to target believers. Proceeds from the sale of all i am n related products will be used by VOM to support persecuted Iraqi and Syrian Christians, including those fleeing Syria as refugees. The movement has already generated over $5 million in aid.
