2014BillboardMusicAwardsLogo-webChris Tomlin won Top Christian Artist at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, held May 18 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand hotel casino. The GRAMMY-winning artist bested fellow finalists Mandisa, Skillet, TobyMac and Matthew West.

West won Top Christian Song as “Hello, My Name Is” from Into the Light (Sparrow Records/Capitol Christian Distribution) beat Tomlin’s “Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)” from Burning Lights, as well as Mandisa’s title track from Overcomer (Sparrow/Capitol Christian), Building 429’s title track from We Won’t Be Shaken (Essential Records/Provident Distribution) and Sidewalk Prophets’ “Help Me Find It” from Live Like That (Fervent Records/Word Distribution).

"It's been an incredible year, and I'm just blown away by the recognition," West said of his award. "But more important than an award is what awards like this signify: that a song connected with people. That is the true honor, to write a song in the hopes that it touches a heart and impacts a life."

Country star Alan Jackson’s Precious Memories: Volume II (EMI Nashville/Capitol Christian) won Top Christian Album, surpassing Tomlin’s Burning Lights (sixstepsrecords/Capitol Christian), Skillet’s Rise (Atlantic Records/Word), Third Day’s Miracle (Essential/Provident) and the compilation WOW Hits 2014 (Capitol Christian).
