altA veteran of evangelical publishing, Cliff Knighten has been hired as the new full-time executive director of the Catholic Book Publishers Association (CBPA), which has 70 members.

Knighten previously served as marketing director for NavPress and Piñon Press, general market division director for David C. Cook and manager of Viva Bookstore, a large independent Catholic bookstore in San Antonio.

altRex Russell, best-selling author of What the Bible Says About Healthy Living (Regal Books/Gospel Light, 1996) and a board-certified invasive radiologist, died Jan. 29. He was 68.

What the Bible Says About Healthy Living was considered a landmark book that many credited as the genesis for the biblical eating movement. "God used Dr. Russell to deliver a message that transformed the health and lives of thousands of people," said Jordan Rubin, who wrote the New York Times best-seller The Maker's Diet (Siloam).

Rosenberg's 'Inside the Revolution' media tour Print Email

altNew York Times best-selling author Joel C. Rosenberg is to start a media tour today to promote his latest book, Inside the Revolution: How the Followers of Jihad, Jefferson & Jesus Are Battling to Dominate the Middle East and Transform the World--to be released tomorrow, March 10, by Tyndale House Publishers.

Rosenberg was scheduled to appear today on American Family Radio, USA Radio Network, the "Michael Medved Show" and "The Michael Reagan Show." Additionally, Rosenberg is scheduled to appear tomorrow on The 700 Club, CBN NewsWatch and "Janet Parshall's America." Rosenberg is also scheduled to appear Wednesday, March 11, on the radio program "The Glenn Beck Show" and Fox News' The Glenn Beck Show.

Dubbed "NRT Mobile," the application--which gives fans instant access to the latest information on their favorite Christian artists and music without being tethered to a computer--is available now as a free download through Apple's iTunes store, NRT officials said.

Jonathan Merkh named Howard Books publisher Print Email

altChristian publishing veteran Jonathan Merkh has been named vice president and publisher of Howard Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, effective March 10.

Merkh comes to Howard Books after he recently joined the William Morris Agency as an agent for the Hollywood talent agency's Book Department. Merkh resigned last year as vice president of Guideposts Books. After 14 years, Merkh resigned from Thomas Nelson in November 2006 as senior vice president and publisher of Nelson Books.

CBA announces new ICRS events Print Email

altAuthors Josh McDowell and Karen Kingsbury will be part of several new events during the International Christian Retail Show (ICRS), according to CBA officials.

Marking its 60th anniversary in Denver, ICRS is set for July 12-15. McDowell, author of Evidence for the Resurrection (Regal) and NFL Hall of Fame member Joe Gibbs, author of Game Plan for Life (Tyndale House Publishers), will speak during the Pacesetter event July 12, which is not a new event. However, it will be followed by the presentation of CBA's new Spirit of Excellence Awards, which will honor stores for their innovation.

altNominations close tomorrow for Christian Retailing's ninth annual Retailers Choice Awards. Suppliers of inspirational gifts, books, music, DVDs and more may enter their best 2008 releases on or before Friday, March 6, in the contest that honors the best Christian products of the year.

Among the 35 categories is a new one for companies just started and releasing products in the Christian retail market. Anyone may nominate for top New Supplier a company that began releasing its products in 2008. In another non-product category, suppliers may submit an innovative Marketing/Promotion Campaign for a particular product.
