The head of the world's largest Christian publisher says he has no regrets about the company not exhibiting at the International Christian Retail Show (ICRS).

"I believe there are better ways to connect with our key customers in a way that is more meaningful to them and to us," Thomas Nelson CEO Michael Hyatt said on his blog. "Trade shows made sense when the industry was more fragmented. It was one of the few ways to connect face-to-face with retailers. But things have changed. The industry is largely consolidated."

Phil Stacey's Christian label debut next month, Into the Light (Reunion Records), brings the artist full circle, from his early days of singing gospel music at his local church and Christian university before gaining national prominence as a top five finalist on the sixth season of the hit TV show American Idol.

After the competition, Stacey performed with the American Idol finalists on a 55-city tour and appeared on Oprah, Live! With Regis and Kelly, The Tonight Show, Ellen, Today show, Larry King Live and Nickelodeon's Me:TV.

Best-selling Catholic authors Bret Nicholaus and Tom McGrath have collaborated to create The Meal Box: Fun Questions and Family Tips to Get Mealtime Conversations Cookin'.

To be published in August by Loyola Press, The Meal Box aims to help parents improve the quality of their family dinnertime conversations. It contains 54 cards, each one featuring a creative question intended to get parents and children ages 6 to 16 talking.

Retail channel ‘suffers’ from scams Print Email

The Christian retail channel in Nigeria continues to be negatively impacted by e-mail scams that have targeted U.S. evangelical bookstores in recent years, according to a leading member of the industry in the African country.

Sylvester Ejeh--owner of Edysyl, a bookstore, distributor and publishing house in Nigeria--told Christian Retailing "the majority of Nigerians suffer image problems overseas because of few that are involved in scams."

Publishers to launch new lines, branding at ICRS Print Email

While most publishers are scaling back their presence at next month's International Christian Retail Show, two companies are using the event to launch major initiatives.

Standard Publishing will announce a return to children's books, while Crossway Books & Bibles will unveil a new name and image at the July 12-15 show in Denver.
