Donald Miller, whose spiritual memoir Blue Like Jazz carved a spot in publishing for “nonreligious” spiritual thought, is focused on the idea of story in his latest release, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years: What I Learned While Editing My Own Life.
The book, spawned from a true-life motion picture adaptation of his groundbreaking book, has Miller relating the concept of creating engaging stories to the idea of fulfilling one's purpose, as designed by their Writer/Creator. Think The Purpose-Driven Life meets the Twitter generation.

As in previous books, Miller is frequently self-deprecating and entertaining, especially concerning how to make his own life interesting enough for film goers.

Being somewhat of a spiritual nonconformist, Miller's journal will be more readily accepted by readers who won't wince at references to alcohol, smoking or sex, none of which are particularly glorified or condemned. Among the humorous and sometimes-heart-wrenching stories, however, are morsels of spirituality that will cause some readers to take inventories of the stories they themselves are living out.
