Helping believers recognize the difference between righteous and sinful anger is a key theme of Gary Chapman’s El enojo: Cómo manejar una emoción poderosa de una manera saludable (Anger: Handling a Powerful Emotion in a Healthy Way, 978-0-825-41193-9, $10.99). Editorial Portavoz (Kregel) will launch the translation this month; Northfield Publishing released the English version in September 2007.

“It’s relevant to everyone in every language and culture,” Cathy Vila, director of sales and marketing at Portavoz, told Christian Retailing. “Anger is a universal struggle for all of us. It’s reality in a sinful world. Unfortunately, much of the literature available on anger talks about how to control it without adequately explaining where it comes from. Chapman believes if we understand the source of our anger, we’ll be much more effective at managing it.”

Chapman shows that “anger isn’t all bad,” Vila added. “It has a purpose, and we can use it to motivate us towards positive change. He explains how to manage anger in healthy, constructive ways and how to instruct our children to deal with anger.”

Drawing on more than 30 years of Chapman’s counseling experience, El enojo shows how anger can be used to “motivate you to positive change” and “release long-simmering resentment,” the publisher said. “He has the uncanny ability to hold a mirror up to human behavior, showing readers not just where they go wrong, but also how to grow and move forward.”

Also included is a 13-session discussion guide “that’s perfect for small groups, workplace studies and book clubs.”

Chapman has written numerous books on practical life and personal growth, including the best-selling Los cinco lenguajes del amor (The Five Love Languages), published in Spanish by Editorial Unilit in 2002, seven years after Northfield Publishing released the English version.
