My faith has grown tremendously since I've accepted the assignment as bookstore manager. I have watched the bookstore transformed from a venue that sells sermon CDs and books that solely support our Bible institute to a ministry that offers something for the entire family.

In addition, my prayer life has increased tremendously. Since I do not have experience in Christian retailing or book-selling, I have to stay in prayer and trust that God will lead me to people and places where I can gain knowledge and obtain wise counsel.

I get really excited when I look around and recognize the work that God is doing in our bookstore.

My advice to new bookstore managers would be to always remember that you are only a steward over a ministry that exists to glorify God. Stay in prayer over decisions and difficult events. Stay in communication with your pastor and church leadership.

Listen to your customers because they are your lifelines to continuous business. Lead by example, and appreciate your staff because without their contribution and support, the bookstore would not exist.
