After 12 years with Essential Records, Jars of Clay has announced the creation of the band's own label, Gray Matters, under the Nettwerk Music Group umbrella. Distribution for the group's albums will remain with Provident-Integrity Distribution for both the Christian retail channel and general market. The first release for Gray Matters will be Jars of Clay's Christmas CD, Christmas Songs, due to come out Oct. 16.
"As we pursue the goal of making more music, and being creative in a spectrum of ways, Gray Matters will be able to facilitate any of the ideas we want to bring to life," said lead singer Dan Haseltine. " … We can collaborate with other artists and take ideas that always seemed to get caught up in the traditional label mire, and make sure those projects have a chance to be heard."
