Singer/songwriter Derek Webb was recently featured in a USA Today article that looked at the ties of politics and faith. Webb, 32, began his career as part of the Christian band Caedmon's Call, but began to wonder “'where are our artists who are talking about politics? About the government?'” he told the newspaper. On one track on his third solo release, Mockingbird (INO Records), he sang of “two great lies,” identifying one as “that Jesus was a white, middle-class Republican, and if you wanna be saved you have to learn to be like Him,” USA Today reported. With a new album, The Ringing Bell (INO Records), due in May, Webb admits that he's been getting fewer invitations to play in churches since Mockingbird's release. But he has no regrets about answering to what he considers a higher authority, he said.
“I hope to tell people what I really see when I look at the world,” Webb told USA Today |
