Gospel singer Donald Lawrence was the big winner of the evening at the 21st Annual Stellar Awards, held Jan. 21 at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Lawrence received Artist of the Year and Producer of the Year awards and his all-star CD, I Speak Life, received awards for CD of the Year, Contemporary CD of the Year, Group/Duo of the Year, Contemporary Group/Duo of the Year and Recorded Package of the Year. Newcomer J Moss took home three awards for Male Vocalist of the Year, Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year and New Artist of the Year. The awards were hosted by Vickie Winans, Israel Houghton and Donnie McClurkin and included performances by Lawrence, Kirk Franklin, Dottie Peoples, Kirk Whalum with Jonathan Butler, and J Moss.
The Winans family also was presented with the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award for their contributions to gospel music.
