With the April 1 release of Ted Dekker's suspense novel Adam, Thomas Nelson will be simultaneously releasing a special edition of the book exclusively to the Christian retail market. The special edition will include an interview with the author, a variant cover and an extra chapter with events taking place months after the story's conclusion.

The added chapter will allow Dekker the opportunity to move beyond the general fiction novel and “dive deeper in themes that undergird the story,” said Allen Arnold, Thomas Nelson senior vice president and publisher of fiction.

Dekker will be interviewed about the new book by a Christian personality yet-to-be-announced.

Arnold told Christian Retailing the special edition is also a way to “recognize the key role Christian retailers had as the first bookseller community who aggressively embraced and promoted the writing of Ted Dekker in the late 1990s.”

Dekker, who has sold more than 2.5 million copies in general and Christian fiction, will see three major novels a year release from Thomas Nelson beginning in 2009-a Christian novel every January, a general fiction title every May and another Christian fiction work in September.

“Thankfully, Ted has an endless imagination and (is) a tireless writer. And amazingly, each story is even stronger than the last,” Arnold said.

Thomas Nelson sees an opportunity for Adam to be Dekker's fastest-selling and best-selling novel to date in all channels.

“We anticipate doubling the sales on this novel at Christian retail compared to his last new hardcover, Skin,” Arnold said. “I anticipate equal growth in the general market as well for this mainstream work of fiction.”
