In his first interview since the death of his 5-year-old adopted daughter, Dove Award-winner Steven Curtis Chapman has told of his family's faith in the midst of the tragedy.

The Chapman family spoke Tuesday to Robin Roberts of ABC's Good Morning America in their Tennessee home, discussing how Maria was accidentally hit by her 17-year-old brother, Will Franklin, who was backing up his sport utility vehicle in the driveway of the family's home in Nashville. Maria later died at a Nashville hospital.

Chapman told Roberts about the struggle to grieve the death of his child, while at the same time supporting his three biological children and two other adopted daughters from China.

"We have talked a lot," he said. "And you will hear all of us talk about the process of grieving with hope. That's what has kept us breathing, kept us alive. … While we are grieving this process, there is a hope that we have that we're anchored to in the midst of just what sometimes seems unbearable."

His wife, Mary Beth, added tearfully: "As the heart of a mom, I want Maria back. …But because I know that she is completely whole because of my faith, I know that she's completely whole and completely OK and I'm going to see her again. …"

Will said his siblings had shown him support and love. "I started running after the accident, and started just running away from the house," he told Roberts. "And I remember (my brother) Caleb was the first one to run and kind of just jump on me and hold me. … To me, that meant a ton."

In addition to his supportive family, Will also turned to God to help him through. "I've gotten a stronger faith through all this, and more faith through all this," he said. "But then there's those days, that just hits you. … But you just gotta continue to choose to live. And that's the faith that continues to keep me going."

The Chapmans were also to appear tonight on CNN's Larry King Live and they were to be featured in People magazine the week of Aug.15. Chapman is currently doing summer concert dates leading up to a co-headlining tour with Michael W. Smith in October.

Shaohannah's Hope, the adoption and orphan care ministry founded by Steven and Mary Beth Chapman, announced this week that more than $635,000 had been given to Maria's Miracle Fund in memory of Maria.
