China Aid Association (CAA) has reported that Beijing Christian bookstore owner and house church leader Shi Weihan has suffered a deterioration in his health since being imprisoned four months ago. Poor prison conditions, refusal of diabetes medication and torture by prison officials have contributed to his poor health.

Recently Shi was made to sign a confession convicting him of "engaging in the printing and distribution of a large number of illegal publications." The charges stem from Shi's printing of Bibles and Christian literature that were sold at his bookstore, but which were deemed "illegal" by Beijing authorities because the books were not printed by the Three-Self Patriotic Movement church.

Bob Fu, CAA president, condemned the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, citing the hypocrisy and contradictory nature of the Chinese government's pledge of religious freedom ahead of the Olympic games to be held in Beijing.
