Fireproof

will not be released in theaters nationwide until Sept. 26, but Sherwood Pictures and Provident Films-the creators of Facing the Giants-have set up more than 100 private pre-release screenings of the new movie for ministry leaders and media, including one at the upcoming International Christian Retail Show in Orlando, Fla.

Additionally, a grass-roots promotion has been launched in the Christian retail channel for the film, which stars Kirk Cameron as a firefighter who tries to save his failing marriage.

Chuck Wallington, president of Christian Supply in Spartanburg, S.C., has sent out a personal message in an e-mail, encouraging recipients to forward the invitation to any pastor and ministry leader so they and their spouses may attend a free screening.

Wallington challenged ministry leaders to see the film and then "actively engage in promoting it to those you have influence over through your ministry." Those who attend a screening can pick up free promotional materials and a Leaders' Resource DVD with ministry tools, including a Bible study using clips from the film.

Meanwhile, B&H Publishing Group will publish a book in September titled The Love Dare, which plays a key role in the movie.

Fireproof''s predecessor Facing the Giants was created by Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga., with an all-volunteer cast and $100,000 budget. The film took in $10 million in theaters and remains a top-selling DVD. It has since been subtitled into 13 languages and dubbed into seven languages, and has sold well in Christian stores.
