Wycliffe Foundation has announced that it has received a $2.8 million check from the Dr. Winifred Weter estate of Seattle-the largest estate gift in the organization's history. Wycliffe Bible Translators USA was the beneficiary of one-fourth of Weter's approximate $18.5 million estate. Besides the $2.8 million check, Wycliffe received $2 million from the Weter estate last June, organization officials said. Weter, who died Jan. 3, 2006, at age 96, taught many Wycliffe translators as well as Eugene Peterson, best-selling author of The Message. “With this gift, we also celebrate the life … of Dr. Weter,” said Don Erickson, president and CEO of the Wycliffe Foundation. “She was a remarkable and accomplished woman.”
Based in Orlando, Fla., the Wycliffe Foundation was established to raise funds to support the mission of Wycliffe Bible Translators and its affiliates.
