Just like in 2006, Chris Tomlin was the most honored artist last night at the 38th Annual Gospel Music Association (GMA) Dove Awards, winning six trophies, including his second consecutive Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year awards.

Tomlin also won Worship Song of the Year for “Holy Is the Lord,” and was recognized for his involvement with the Special Event Album of the Year, Passion: Everything Glorious (sixstepsrecords).

Tomlin's current album, See the Morning (sixstepsrecords), won Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year and Praise and Worship Album of the Year. “I never felt like much of a singer. I just like to lead people in worship to God,” Tomlin said, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

Tomlin, who won five GMA Dove Awards last year, led all 2007 nominees with nine nods. Aaron Shust, who was nominated for five awards, won three Doves for New Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year and Songwriter of the Year for “My Savior, My God.”

“Wow. There's so much that goes into the making of a song, the making of this song,” Shust said, the AP reported. “There are so many people that come along. It's not just me.”

Natalie Grant, who co-hosted the show with former Backstreet Boy and contemporary Christian artist Brian Littrell and singer Donnie McClurkin, won Female Vocalist of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Casting Crowns won Group of the Year. Ed Cash, who has worked with Tomlin, country singer Kathy Mattea and others, won Producer of the Year. Alan Jackson's gospel album Precious Memories (Arista Records) won Country Album of the Year.

Closing out GMA Music Week, the awards, held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, will be televised in national syndication in May.
