Religious book sales up for January Print

Religious Books were up 28.2% for January, with sales totaling $34.6 million, according to the Association of American Publishers (AAP).

AAP previously reported that Religious Books sales were down 8.3% for December at $50.6 million, and the category also dipped 10.2% in 2006.

Publishing sales showed growth in January for most of the categories tracked by the association, with net sales up by 6.4% for the month.

The Adult Hardcover category was up by 32.2% in January, with sales of $92.5 million. Adult Paperback sales were down 11.7% for the month, with sales of $97.7 million, AAP said.

The Adult Mass Market category was down slightly by 3.1% for the month, with sales of $54.9 million. The Children's/Young Adult Hardcover category posted an increase of 18.4% in January, with sales of $39.9 million. The Children's/Young Adult Paperback category declined by 18.1% for the month, with sales totaling $23.9 million.

Audio Book sales were up by 21.2% for January compared to December's figures, with sales totaling $11.0 million. E-books climbed by 18.7% for the month, with sales of $1.8 million.
