Group Publishing in Loveland, Colo., laid off 21 employees last week and will hire six more as part of a company restructuring. The reorganization, reported today by The (Fort Collins) Coloradoan, comes to “better position the company for the future,” CEO Thom Schultz said in a statement.

A new design for the company includes eight business units, each with a complete staff, meaning changed roles and responsibilities for many staff members.

The restructuring “will give each unit the functions and people it needs to make decisions, create great products and services for our customers and jump on new opportunities,” Schultz said. He said the old organizational structure placed various business functions in multiple departments.

The new design will bring functions such as product development, production, marketing and sales into complete strategic business units, and has created new positions in event marketing, sales, distribution logistics and women's ministry relationships.

“This year, we're seeing overall revenue growth,” Schultz said, “but we're looking to the future. This is the first major reorganization we've done for 10 years. We're ready now to move ahead and continue our record of growth, and accomplishment of our mission serving churches.”
