Religion publishers’ revenues down in August Print

AAPButtonLogo-webNet revenues from religion publishers were up 2% for January-August 2014 compared to the same period last year, according to the American Association of Publishers (AAP) monthly StatShot report. For the month of August, they were down 1.5% compared to the same month in 2013.

Compared to August 2013, paperbacks from religious publishers were down 18.4%, though hardcovers rose 4.6%. Significantly, e-books rose 17.6% in August using the same comparison.

Overall, children’s and Young Adult titles prospered, rising nearly 21% comparing the month of August this year to last, and increasing 25% for January-August 2014 compared to the same period last year.

The August statistics show what stores are buying ahead of the end-of-year holiday season.

Approximately 1,200 publishers reported to AAP for August.
