OurDailyBread-DHPBetween 700 and 800 people attended a Tuesday, June 24, event that featured several authors of the popular Our Daily Bread devotional. Our Daily Bread is a publication of RBC Ministries, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and reaches millions of readers around the world. It is published in 55 languages.

Meet the Authors of Our Daily Bread (ODB), an event that has taken place in several locations around the United States, including the International Christian Retail Show (ICRS) in Atlanta, drew a portion of its audience from ICRS attendees and a larger portion from the public.

The event is designed to introduce ODB readers to some of the writers who create the devotional. A panel discussion at the event included writers Anne Cetas, Marvin Williams and Bill Crowder, with emcee Joe Tower. The trio answered questions about their history with ODB and how they come up with ideas for devotionals.

The approximately two-hour event included a DVD presentation of the history of RBC Ministries and Our Daily Bread, a presentation of “Daily Hope for Prisoners,” a ministry to prisoners sponsored by RBC, and devotional thoughts by Williams, a pastor in Lansing, Mich.

“We’re thrilled to be able to introduce the Our Daily Bread writers to the public at this event,” said Carol Holquist, executive publisher of Discovery House Publishers, publishing arm of RBC Ministries. “We love to meet the people who read ODB and who God has touched through it.”

Attendees were invited to share their memories about Our Daily Bread and how it has affected their lives through the years. The video clips will be used on social media sites for Our Daily Bread and RBC Ministries.

Holquist described one woman’s story about Our Daily Bread: “I never get rid of an Our Daily Bread,” she said. “I give them to people who need them, and I’ve handed them out everywhere. When my daughter asked me why I was keeping all those old devotionals, I told her ‘God’s Word never grows old.’ ”

RBC also sponsored a pastor’s breakfast Wednesday morning at ICRS that featured ODB writer Marvin Williams. More than 200 attended the event.
