The “Reformation Heritage Bible Commentary” series from Concordia Publishing House (CPH) is the first such series to use the English Standard Version (ESV) of the Bible. Releasing in April, Luke will be the series' fifth entry.

The commentary also features illustrative quotes from key reformers such as Martin Luther, Philipp Melanchthon, John Calvin, Thomas Cranmer and others.

“The reformation of the church brought with it biblical insights that revitalized churches and radically changed the course of theological studies,” said the Rev. Dr. R. Reed Lessing. “This series will be a one-stop resource where the observations of these and other distinguished Reformation leaders are brought together. Scholars will treasure it and find it eminently useful.”

Each commentary couples modern and historic translations by including the ESV and the King James Version in a side-by-side format.

Engelbrecht, senior editor at CPH. “Having both editions side by side and verse by verse makes this commentary valuable to anyone looking to study the Word in a deep and meaningful way—whether a pastor, professor or parish member.”

Mark, Revelation, Galatians/Ephesians/Philippians and Colossians/Thessalonians are currently available in the series. The series releases two books per year and will be complete with 14 New Testament volumes.
