With the 2014 Vacation Bible School (VBS) season upon us, Concordia Publishing House encourages retailers and churches to see VBS as a safe place for kids.

“VBS should be a safe haven for kids, where everyone is equal in the eyes of the Lord and all are loved and welcomed,” said Jessica Stetson, VBS leader and Christian educator. “Kids don’t need more labels—they need Jesus.”

Stetson also suggests five elements are key when looking for a VBS program: volunteer-friendly, gospel-focused and Christ-centered, biblical theme, correct scriptural context and engaging, enriching content.

“VBS is about sharing the Good News of Jesus, that, ‘while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us,’ ” Stetson said. "With Concordia’s VBS curriculum, regardless of what issues the child is dealing with, every day children leave VBS knowing the Savior and that His name is Jesus.”
