Contemporary gospel artist and former Santana frontman Leon Patillo was to be the featured artist at the Inaugural Prayer Event tonight, Jan. 19, in Washington, D.C. Patillo was to debut his new song “United We Stand” with a live performance. The song can be downloaded at www.myspace.com/leonpatilloministries.

Patillo, who uses his musical talents at the Get Motivated Seminars, along with General Colin Powell, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, George Foreman and Suze Orman, said: “It was awesome to be asked to do the Inaugural Prayer Event. Anytime I can use my gift to influence those who affect our nation, God’s purpose is definitely being fulfilled.”

The former Word Records artist spawned hits such as “J.E.S.U.S.,” “Cornerstone” and the wedding anthem “Flesh of My Flesh.” Patillo has also hosted the long-running TBN series Leon and Friends, and in 1990 founded his own label, Positive Pop Records.

Patillo is also a pastor, and recently negotiated a deal with the Queen Mary in Long Beach, Calif., setting up the ship’s first church in its 70-year history.

Additionally, best-selling author and pastor Rick Warren was also to give the invocation at President-elect Obama’s inauguration.
