The Associação de Editores Cristãos (ASEC), the Christian publishers association in Brazil, is hosting its first international Christian book fair, FLIC (Feira Internacional do Livro Cristão), May 2-6. Christian Trade Association International (CTAI) will work with ASEC to offer Marketsquare Brazil, a two-day translation rights show, May 2-3, as part of the event.

With activities for industry professionals and for the general public, the event is expected to draw 5,000 people each day it is open to the public.

Christian books are “the fastest-growing segment in the country’s publishing industry,” CTAI Executive Director Kim Pettit said, noting that last month ASEC reported that the Christian book market in Brazil was projected to grow from approximately US$280 million in 2011 to US$320 million in 2012.

Sinval Filho, ASEC’s executive director, said that FLIC was intended to “show the high value of Christian books. The number of evangelicals in Brazil continues to grow, and there is great interest in spiritual matters. Readers are thirsty for Christian books.”

Marketsquare Brazil 2012 is the third annual rights and licensing show organized by ASEC in partnership with CTAI. The event is scheduled just before Expolit, the Spanish-language Christian book fair in Miami.
