New Release Spotlight

Silent Sally by Eric Walls

Sally is a quiet little girl, but she is always on the lookout for ways to help. While other kids are too busy talking to notice, Sally is the first to fill any need. But one day she helps one of her classmates, and all the other kids begin to notice her actions. “What does it mean to be a silent doer?” they all wonder. Soon the entire school learns how important it is to help others. Silent Sally aims to help kids learn that God wants us to not just hear, but practice doing what His Word says by following Christ’s example in serving and giving. Written in rhyme, the book also includes a Note to Parents, and suggested discussion to help children ages 5 and up apply the story to their lives. Author and illustrator Walls is an animation artist who has helped to create family feature films such as Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and The Prince of Egypt.

Overcome (Lara Landon)

Overcome
Pop-folk artist Lara Landon’s musical career began with some prime opportunities. Her debut album, Beloved, was produced by GRAMMY winner Michael Omartian, and she was able to work with well-respected songwriter-producers like five-time SESAC Christian music Songwriter of the Year Jason Ingram as well as Dove Award-winning artist Plumb and Mitch Dane (Jars of Clay). Radio single “Closer” stayed on the charts for most of 2010 and was No. 1 on the Family Life radio network. Overcome, Landon’s sophomore project releasing on her own Wise Sam label, is co-produced by her in cooperation with Dane, Steve Wilson (Josh Wilson, Johnny Diaz) and Brian Hitt (Mikeschair). It features songs sequenced to tell a story and addresses the believer’s authority to find victory even in difficult circumstances. First single “I See God in You” was co-written and produced by Dane. It was inspired by Landon’s mission trips to Haiti as well as a month spent on a service-based tour that ministered in homeless shelters, bars, women’s rehabilitation centers and churches.

In the Spanish translation of 10 Answers for Skeptics, McFarland identifies the 10 most common types of skepticism that plague doubters’ minds and offers believers strategies for connecting with those who are skeptical about the claims of Christ. Readers will learn how to answer intimidating questions, identify the root issue behind the questions and dismantle “spiritual bombshells” dropped by atheists.
n this 13-week, workbook-style study on the New Testament parables from the series “Following God Through the Bible,” readers will see that the kingdom of God is at hand and is in the believer. And one day it will come to completion when Christ returns. Until then, Christians are challenged to be keepers of the kingdom.

The Mystery Shopper

Immediately upon entering, we were welcomed by a frontliner working at one of the four registers. Throughout our visit, we were asked at least once or twice, “Are you finding everything?” The multiple staffers, wearing maroon logo shirts, were not bothersome, but appeared genuinely willing to assist.
