Following a brief theatrical run earlier in the year, Not Easily Broken (0-43396-26428-1, $28.95), adapted from the book by pastor and author T. D. Jakes was released on DVD last month.

The 90-minute drama centers on the marriage struggles of Dave and Clarice Johnson, whose relationship is tested when she is injured in a car accident. The couple face financial pressures, emotional challenges and temptations to their commitment.

The film version of Jakes’ 2006 FaithWords novel stars Morris Chestnut (The Perfect Holiday) and Taraji P. Henson, a Best Supporting Actress nominee at this year’s Oscars for her role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Other cast members include Maeve Quinlan (television’s 90210) and Jenifer Lewis (Madea’s Family Reunion).

Jakes said one of his goals for the film was to produce a work that would show African-Americans in a positive light, “which is still a rare occurrence even in the 21st century.” He hoped that the drama would “ignite a flame in Hollywood of inspirational material at a time when our nation so desperately needs inspiration” and that it would help “open the lines of communication to deal with issues that are often swept under the rug.”

Additional features include deleted scenes and a featurette, Making Not Easily Broken. The film was rated PG-13 for sexual references and thematic elements.

Not Easily Broken is distributed by Spring Arbor. Call 800-395-4340.
