koorong-logoBible Society Australia announced Tuesday the acquisition of Koorong, Australia’s leading Christian retail chain. Retail purchases will now help provide access to the Bible around the world through this partnership.

Richard Grellman, chairman of Bible Society Australia, said he believed the Koorong partnership will create a synergy for both organizations that will have greater impact in the marketplace and in the Christian community.

Paul Bootes, managing director of Koorong, will continue to lead Koorong operations. Bootes said it will be business as usual with all staff to be retained.

“Nearly 40 years ago my father and mother started selling Bibles and Christian books in our garage near Macquarie Park in Sydney,” said Bootes. “Today, thanks to the support of our customers, we have 300 dedicated employees, an online store and 15 stores nationwide.”

In 2009, Koorong acquired Authentic Media in the U.K. and now also holds a significant interest in BroadStreet Publishing Group in the U.S.

“We are thrilled with this new partnership, as it allows us to both share the important materials that mean so much to our fellow Christians and support vital missions around the world,” Bootes said. “Our growing international publishing business will continue to operate under the ownership of the Bootes family.”
