Author and Olympian Gabrielle Douglas nominated for NAACP award Print

RaisingTheBar-webGabrielle Douglas’ Raising the Bar has been nominated for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work in the Youth/Teen category. Published by Zondervan, the book by the two-time Olympic gold medalist released last May.

The NAACP Image Awards are presented each year with 54 categories in film, television, music and literature. The awards recognize the outstanding achievements and performances of African Americans and also honor groups who promote social justice.

“We are elated to learn of this esteemed honor for Raising the Bar,” said Annette Bourland, senior vice president and group publisher at Zondervan. “It is a testament to Gabrielle Douglas’ extraordinary life of faith, endurance and perseverance that inspires us all.”

In Raising the Bar, Douglas shares photos, quotes and some of her favorite things, as well as tips on wellness and keeping strong under pressure. She also offers tips on how readers can raise the bar in their lives and accomplish their dreams.

Voting begins Jan. 13 among NAACP members, and winners will be announced when the envelopes are opened Feb. 21 during the awards ceremony for non-televised categories.  The remaining categories will be announced live during the TV One telecast Feb. 22 (9 p.m. ET/PT tape-delayed) of the 45th NAACP Image Awards held in Pasadena, Calif.
