It is time for Christian retailers to "grab by both horns" one of the channel's big growth categories, according to Rich Peluso, vice president of Affirm Films, the faith-based label of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

The massive growth in home theaters and media rooms as families seek high-quality and impact entertainment at home "holds significant sales potential for Christian retailers," he says, noting that even churches are following the trend, with many having large screens used for playing multimedia and film for services.

"What's being played on many of those home entertainment and church systems? Faith and family films," he writes in a new Christian retail advice section, in the January 2010 issue of Christian Retailing magazine.

"Unfortunately, far too many Christian retail stores are still squeezing DVDs into old music fixtures or sticking them spine-out on shelves in the back of stores," he says in his Category Keys column in the magazine's new Christian Product Briefing section, detailing the latest major new releases.

Among his recommendations, that stores "make a statement" by creating a "Recorded Media" or "Enrichment, Education and Entertainment" section, combining DVDs with music and software, and that they "shout it out" by including information about movie offerings in local advertising, mailers/catalogs, out-of-store and in-store signage and on their Web site.
