Sales of religious books rose modestly in April—the fourth month in a row of increase for the category, according to the Association of American Publishers (AAP).

Compared to the same period last year, April's sales for religious books—in all print and digital formats—increased 2.5% to $48.5 million, following a 27.4% jump to $63.5 million in March sales and a 5.5% increase to $48.5 million in February sales. In April 2010, religious books sales totaled $46.6 million.

The biggest growth in the AAP report, however, was e-book sales, which continued to rise in April—reflecting an increase of 157.5% to $72.8 million, compared to April 2010, when sales were $28.3 million.

Based on data from 92 publishers, the categories of e-books, downloaded audiobooks and religious books saw revenue gains in April this year compared to April 2010, according AAP.
