The Advanced Writers & Speakers Association (AWSA) has announced the 2011 finalists for the Golden Scroll Awards, which recognizes the editors and publishing houses that best demonstrate outstanding ministry partnerships with their authors, along with new book award categories.

Publisher of the Year Award finalists are Beacon Hill Press, Discovery House Publishers and Tyndale House Publishers. Editor of the Year finalists are Brandy Bruce (Focus on the Family), Judi Perry (Beacon Hill) and Terry Glaspey (Harvest House Publishers). Fiction Editor of the Year finalists are Vicki Crumpton (Baker Publishing Group), David Lambert (Somersault Group) and Jan Stob (Tyndale House).

Novel of the Year finalists are Red Ink by Kathi Macias (New Hope Publishers), A Prisoner of Versailles by Golden Keyes Parsons (Thomas Nelson) and Freedom's Stand by Jeanette Windle (Tyndale House).

The Nonfiction Book of the Year finalists are Surviving One Bad Year by Nancie Carmichael (Howard Books), Wounded Children: Healing Homes by Jayne E. Schooler, Betsy Keefer Smalley and Timothy J. Callahan (NavPress) and The Girl in the Orange Dress by Margot Starbuck (InterVarsity Press).

The winners will be announced during the 11th Annual Golden Scroll Awards Banquet, which is set for July 10 at The Omni at CNN Center in Atlanta, prior to the opening of the International Christian Retail Show. Best-selling author and speaker Patsy Clairmont will be the keynote speaker, with Linda Gilden serving as emcee.

Elsewhere, the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference, led by best-selling novelist Alton Gansky, was held May 9-13 at the LifeWay Ridgecrest Conference Center, located near Asheville, N.C. During the conference, When God Comes Near by Marcia Gaddis (Longbranch Press) was recognized with the new Director's Choice Award and as the 2011 SELAH Book of the Year.
