David C. Cook's The Action Bible will be showcased at the San Diego Comic-Con International, which kicks off today in San Diego.

At last month's International Christian Retail Show in St. Louis, Cook reported enthusiasm for the September arrival of The Action Bible, a 752-page updating of the publisher's successful Picture Bible by former Marvel Comics and DC Comics artist Sergio Cariello.

Cariello, a well-known Brazilian-American artist who has drawn Spider-Man, Superman and Batman, worked for three years on illustrations for The Action Bible. "I've worked on many comics that I'm proud of, but there is nothing like doing a relevant story with eternal value," he said. "All those other characters and stories will someday end, but the stories and impact of The Action Bible will last forever. It is a privilege and the honor of a lifetime for a Christian cartoonist to get to draw and bring to life God's own stories."

The country's largest comic-book convention, Comic-Con is a four-day event that runs through Sunday, July 25, and is expected to draw more than 125,000 pop-culture fanatics of film, television, comic books and video games.

Comic-Con attendees can meet Cariello at the Christian Comic Arts Society (CCAS) booth and register to win an autographed, limited-edition illustration from The Action Bible. Sample chapters of the Bible will also be available to attendees.

Additionally, CCAS is offering several workshops and events at Comic-Con, including "Spirituality in Comics," "After Hours with the Christian Comic Arts Society" and "Christian Comics: The Word in Pictures."
