The Parable Group recognized several franchise stores for outstanding service during the company's annual meeting, held last month prior to the International Christian Retail Show in St. Louis.

Gary and Marcia Hoffman, owners of Rainbow Parable Christian Store in Colonial Heights, Va., were recognized with the large store award. "They have effectively addressed issues of downsizing space, the shift in staffing cycle, refinement of financial and inventory management practices," said Parable Franchise Coach John Strifler. "All steps taken in an effort to sustain the life-changing impact of their store in the community."

Bob and Miriam Perry, owners of Lemstone Parable Christian Store in Columbia, Mo., won the small store award. Despite economic challenges, Strifler said the Perrys "have done it all with class, with Christ-honoring interactions and with a passion to see lives changed."

The Excellence in Sales Growth award went to Rainbow Shop Parable Christian Store in Fargo, N.D. Owner Jason Mitzel is a second-generation Christian retailer following his parents, Jim and Betty Mitzel, who formerly owned the store. In 2009, Mitzel saw 7% sales growth at his store, and his sales are up an additional 5% between January and May, Parable officials said.

"Between Jason's participation in all the Parable catalogs and flyers, as well as the relocation of his store to a higher-traffic area, he has seen a great return," said Parable Director of Franchise Operations Steve Adams.

The Parable Group celebrated its 25th anniversary with a banquet June 26 featuring musical artists The Museum and Audrey Assad as well as Bobby Bowden, the second-most-winning coach in the history of college football.
