With vampire fever being fanned by the recent release of the second "Twilight" movie, Christian publishers have responded with titles aiming to dispel some of the shadows surrounding the trend.

Leading the way was Destiny Image, which released Kurt Bruner's The Twilight Phenomenon: Forbidden Fruit or Thirst Quenching Fantasy? in September. The author's previous works include books offering a Christian perspective on "The Lord of the Rings" and the "His Dark Materials" series.

Multnomah Books brought out Beth Felker Jones' Touched by a Vampire: Discovering the Hidden Messages in the Twilight Saga, released in October. The initial response to the book had been good, said publicist Liz Johnson, adding: "As the popularity of 'Twilight' has been so widespread, many Christians are looking for some insight."

David C. Cook released Kimberly Powers' Escaping the Vampire: Desperate for the Immortal Hero, last month. The founder of Walk the Talk Youth Ministries, Powers realized there was "a strong need to address this attraction," said Penny Whipps, publicity manager.

Kregel Publications debuts Dave Roberts' The Twilight Gospel: The Spiritual Roots of Stephenie Meyer's Vampire Saga, this month.

Meanwhile, Dwight Hall--president of Remnant Publications, based in Coldwater, Mich.--said that his company had sold more than 10,000 copies of Steve Wohlberg's booklet The Darkness of Twilight: Hidden Perils Behind Today's Vampire Craze to churches and individuals buying it in bulk to hand out at theaters screening The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
