Green company to debut at ICRS

Heartsong Creations-believed to be the world's first organic-certified, sustainable and eco-friendly Christian children's apparel label-will make its debut at the International Christian Retail Show in St. Louis, June 27-30.

Heartsong's designs are inspired by scriptural themes and gospel songs. The apparel is made with eco-friendly organic cotton and sustainable bamboo-based fabrics.

Melinda Chiew said the idea for the business came to her when she struggled to find a unique, practical and meaningful present for a friend who had just given birth to her first child.

"Children are a gift from God, and deserve to be free from harmful chemical residue that is often found in non-organic clothing," she said. "The created environment is also a gift and Christians have a responsibility to take care of it."

Chiew met Clarice Nist at a church in Australia, where Nist and her husband lived for a time, more than two years ago. Now Nist is living in Indiana and has become the company's U.S. representative.

The company's name refers to a person's heart song or passion, and was largely inspired by Casting Crowns' song "Lifesong."
