altSean McDowell, author of Apologetics for a New Generation (Harvest House Publishers), is scheduled to be featured tomorrow, March 31, in a blog tour at FIRST (Fiction in Rather Short Takes) Wild Card Tours, firstwildcardtours.blogspot.com.

Released March 1, McDowell's book--which features several contributors, including his well-known father, Josh McDowell--offers a solution to the trend of teenagers who leave home for college, but fail to take their faith with them.

altAuthor and speaker Margaret Feinberg is soliciting the help of her readers for her new book, Scouting the Divine: My Search for God in Wine, Wool and Wild Honey, which releases from Zondervan in October.

"To have a little fun, I wanted to find out what word you'd like to see in the book," Feinberg asked visitors of her Web site and Facebook page. "If you wanted to see one word used in the book-and feel free to challenge me-what would it be?"

altSeveral prominent evangelical leaders will gather in Washington, D.C., tomorrow, March 31, to issue a call for action on immigration reform this year as well as spotlight a new InterVarsity Press book about a Christian response to the immigration debate.

Released in January, Welcoming the Stranger: Justice, Compassion and Truth in the Immigration Debate was co-authored by World Relief staffers Matthew Soerens and Jenny Hwang.

altAn upswing in sales of bargain books and mass-market paperbacks is helping retailers and publishers during the economic slowdown.

Dwight Baker, president of Baker Publishing Group, has noticed the renewed interest in bargain books and said his company is consistently moving skids of product that were previously housed "for months."

‘Fireproof’ makers readying for next film Print Email

altThe makers of the surprise hit Fireproof (Provident-Integrity Distribution) are in "a season of prayer" regarding the follow-up to the top independent movie release of 2008, although they expect to have a budget five times larger than with the pro-marriage drama.

A keynote speaker during the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Convention in February, Fireproof Director Alex Kendrick said the yet-unnamed Sherwood Pictures film would have an expected budget of $2.5 million.

altThe Cross--a movie about the life and ministry of globe-trekking evangelist Arthur Blessitt--placed at No. 17 after debuting on 221 screens on the weekend, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

Made by Gener8Xion Entertainment, affiliated with Trinity Broadcasting Network and the company responsible for The Omega Code and One Night With the King, the film took in $327,000.

CBA offers music ‘Best Practices’ Print Email

altCBA has created a "Top Ten List of Music Best Practices" to boost sales for retailers because "keeping the right business practices in music is crucial right now," according to the retail trade association.

The suggestions run the gamut from practical--No. 5 ("Find out your Christian radio station's play list--have the product and display the list in your store") to creative--No. 10 ("Host special events-promote special music events for both well-known and local artists that are not so well known in your store").
