'Young Messiah' makes top 10 at weekend box office Print

YoungMessiah poster-webFocus Features' The Young Messiah grossed nearly $3.3 million over the weekend, landing seventh in theater box office receipts, according to boxofficemojo.com. The film opened March 11 in more than 1,700 theaters.

The Young Messiah is an adaptation of author Anne Rice's book Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt and imagines a year in the boyhood of Jesus. The PG-13 film is directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh, who also directed The Stoning of Soraya M. Adam Greaves-Neal plays the young Jesus.

Zootopia topped the weekend box office, while Sony's Risen hit No. 10 and grossed nearly $2.3 million.
