Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) this week honored the writers and publishers of last year's most-performed Christian songs on U.S. radio and TV during its annual Christian Music Awards, held at the organization's headquarters in Nashville.

For the second consecutive year, TobyMac was recognized as Songwriter of the Year along with Southern gospel's Rodney Griffin and Needtobreathe's Bo Rinehart. "What Faith Can Do" was named Song of the Year. Written by Scott Krippayne and published by Pirk Music, the song was recorded by Kutless.

Additionally, Universal Music Publishing Group—with five songs in the most-performed list—earned its fourth consecutive Publisher of the Year award.

During the April 4 event, BMI also paid tribute to Gospel Music Association co-founder Don Butler—who died earlier this year, and spent 45 years in the music industry as an executive, singer, producer and manager.

BMI, a performing rights organization that recognizes the writers and publishers of the most-performed Christian songs on radio and television, presented awards for several songs in five categories, including Christian Rock, Contemporary Christian, Inspirational, Urban Gospel and Southern Gospel.
